My dad is a big tobacco farmer in the Carolinas. The problem is, you have all these illegal immigrants coming over for supposively, just the season. But of course, they end up staying. My concern is that a lot of illegals are coming over to do manual labor, like crop backer (tobacco, haha), pick strawberries, etc etc. In the slave times we(not literally as in me or my family) had slave cotton pickers, but when that was outlawed, the cotton picker was invented. New technology is constantly coming out and when these new machines take most of the illegal immigrants jobs, what do they do then??? It might not be in the next few years, but machines are taking over and we're gonna be stuck trying to integrate all these illegals who don't have jobs because of the new technology... That's gonna be the fun part...

darn, if only they got with the program and left when they weren't needed any more



here in Jacksonville, a lot (if not most) of the construction workers are illegals. i was talking to a roofer, and he says he can't get Americans to do the work for what he's wiling to pay. also, he says the Americans who do work are usually pretty bad workers.

he HATES Mexicans (he does; i'm working on him) but he says that you can't compete with Mexican workers. he hires them all the time.

(by Mexican he means anybody from Central America who speaks Spanish. they're all Mexicans to him)
