I've been researching liveaboard trips to Cocos for late summer 2026. Unsurprisingly, many of the spots are taken since it's peak Cocos season. However, I came across one charter for late August that literally has the entire lower cabin level available. The top level is completely booked.

This strikes me as strange. Am I overthinking it? I called Aggressor and they didn't really explain why this is the case. I really want to pull the trigger but thought it prudent to check with this community for your thoughts.

Thank you in advance!

Summer 2026 is a year out. Maybe they just added this trip? Or, if this trip is on the Okeanos boat those cabins are 81 sq feet. I've been on one of those Aggressor boats with those tiny cabins. Not great but doable.

I’m betting a lot of folks have become gunshy about below deck accommodations based on the rash of LOB disasters over the past few years. Below deck evacuations haven’t been a success story.

A vast majority of cabins on LOBs are below decks so I doubt that's the issue. A good boat has at least 2 places to escape and the Aggressor boats have fire extinguishers and rules about charging and an all night patrol. That would be the least of my worries. Shairing a 9x9 ft cabin is somewhat difficult, though.

Hi @jsyteng

I believe you said the Cocos Island Aggressor. The rooms are 10x10 with twins, pretty roomy. I went on the Belize Aggressor IV, cabin was 9-4x9-5 and was one of the nicer I have had. Cabins 6 and 7 on the Cocos Island Aggressor are next to the stairway up to the lounge and out to the dive deck. I don't see the emergency exit on the floor plan.

EDIT: looks like the emergency exit for the below deck cabins may be through cabin 1, I would ask about it, examine it If I were there.

And some simply refuse to go on any Aggressor boats, due to company policies.

I don't remember the exact cabin numbers but there are exits in front and also to the rear through the engine room on both boats. The downstairs cabins are definitely roomier on the Cocos Aggressor. I was able to score one on the main deck cabin for my next trip, though.
