Wayward Son:
If we closed off the southern border we would stop that vast majority of illegals.

even the Republicans realize that's an impossibility, which is what has people like Bill OReilly up in arms, since they make money off drawing attention to themselves

bottom line is, it can't be done, guy

sorry

feel free to try and waste a lot of money and get the illusion of safety if you want. heck, we put up with the Patriot Act for the same reason

this is such an enormous red herring issue, waste-of-time and resources issue, nothing can ever be done and will never be done about it issue ... because you're fighting the forces of geography, history, and economics

good luck

Same thing in TX, illegals are given treatment & benefits in the hospitals there that poor citizens are refused.

I said from the start we can't seal it, meaning perfection will not be achieved. We don't need perfection, we do need to make one hell of a dent in it & that can be done.

i have to say that despite being such a hot topic, everybody has managed to be civil and have had a good discussion here

i always feel like i learn new things, even if i don't get my mind changed

I'll be the first to admit, the cost of what it would be for the US economy if legal workers were doing these jobs with benefits NEVER gets factored in when the cost of immigrants is discussed in most of the news.

That's why I am not sure. I am sticking with "UU" on this issue. I think he is compassionate, loves Mexico, understands the need for the economic relationship.

I'd rather see it be better for fewer and still have "enough". We need them if we will have an adequate future work demographic.

************MOD POST**************

Dear all
I have deleted quite a few posts which were way too political
And still I'm not sure whether immigration (legal or illegal) is a topic for discussion
at SCUBAboard

Please refrain from politics

whew, at least I can wean myself and get something done today.
no self control, I have no self control. zip.

Have to love censorship!!! and we all were being careful and civil to one another...:shakehead I guess one better be careful about debating anything on scubaboard.. There are many posts/discussions that are not "scuba" related. This forum is a collabaration of scuba divers talking and debating about today's issues.:censored:

SteveDiver:
Cheap labor means substandard work believe me. Houses are not built like they used to be because you have "unskilled" illegals doing the work. If it is so bad over here and they are under-paid then they need to go home. What we need to do is send them ALL back accross the border and abolish welfare and make the welfare participants take the jobs that the illegals had...

Good, an answer to the problem. There are others that don't even see a problem, I think their head is in the mud.

Maybe you are civil but still ToS says it clearly:

Consequently we ask that discussions involving politics and nationalities or anything of a sexual nature be reserved for other message boards that are better venues for these topics.
Mania
This is scubaboard.......

Let's see now:
Mania you let the original post go. You let a spirited but civil discussion go. But as soon as someone starts citing international economic facts it is "too political"? The posts citing those facts get deleted? After all this is the "Non-Diving Related Stuff" section and your cited reference doesn't seem to apply.

Now it isn't my board and I do sincerely want to play by the "rules". But selective enforcement is more akin to the old southern speed traps for tourists than it is to maintaining a civil discourse.

So, I suggest you take another look at how your enforcement was done. Either let it roll once started in this Non-Diving Related section; or pull the entire thread.

To not do so suggests a motive that is less than honorable.
