Just in case everyone thought that we could not fit more people on a cruise ship; well, here you go. Thank heavens that the draft in Cozumel is so shallow.
This is what is being built; I was just shocked at the size of this vessel. :(

This is not meant to bash the cruise industry; I just don't like the idea of putting five thousand people (plus) on a cruise ship and then unloading them at every port of call.

Standing on the beach and watch the sunset with the sand between your toes and start thinking of where you want to go for dinner! No dinning schedule required! Andrew

Royal Caribbean International on Monday ordered the world’s largest and most expensive cruise ship, a $1.24 billion vessel that will hold up to 6,400 passengers.
The ship, dubbed Project Genesis, is set to be delivered to the world’s second-largest cruise operator in fall 2009 by Oslo, Norway-based shipbuilder Aker Yards. It will be 220,000 gross registered tons and weigh in at about 100,000 tons based on displacement — a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier comes in at about 97,000 tons.
Aker said its contract price of 900 million euros — about $1 billion — would be “the most valuable ship ever ordered in the history of commercial shipbuilding.”

So much for non-crowded cruising...;)

I've watched cruise ships disembark before and I can't imagine trying to get a taxi if you are the 3,492nd off the ship... That would give you maybe 10 or 15 minutes to sight see before heading back on board...

Love it, we'll be on that bad boy.

Liberty of the Seas in '08, largest and newest at that time. We're strong believers that size does matter ;)

As a former crewmember, I have to say that putting 5000+ people in an enclosed space is asking for trouble. All it takes is one guy with the local travel bug to forget to wash his hands between an extended bathroom visit and a trip to the buffet. Norovirus is one un-fun thing to have, and seeing it on a ship scared me. The lengths you have to go to get people to be considerate on vacation... :shiver:
