I love those shallow dives. Many problems can be fixed at depth... but they don't have to be. It's hard for anyone here to second guess any of your decisions, and it appears that you have justified all of them in your mind. I don't see much of a problem here.

My 2 cents here is simple, you got good advice from these guys, and gal. But to reference your title question better paranoid or too comfy, both will get you killed on the right dive. As you gain experience you will realize that you have to stay relaxed, alert and know your limits. Being too comfy will cause you to do somethng your not really ready for, being paranoid may cause panic that might prevent you from taking care of a simple fix at depth.

You know Kevin, I think comfy is OK unless it is at the expense of Situational Awareness. I know I "Zen" in the water but my senses are heightened at the same time. However, some people just zone out, overlooking both good and bad things while communication becomes improbable if not impossible.

Comfy=GREAT.
Zoned out=BAD

It's hard to see what is nothing more than a lot of second guessing over any real issue.

I agree 100%, thats where knowing ones limits comes in. I know when diving like the jettys or offshore I have to keep myself in check so I dont Zen out.

Kevin,

You Zone Out, but Zen In. For me, Zen heightens the awareness of my surroundings. Relaxed? You betcha. Aware? Way more than usual. You know where every part of you is at in relation to your surroundings. Your head, your hands, even your fin tips.

Actually I get soo relaxed I can fall asleep :D Doesnt happen in caves tho, well maybe during deco, but only cause its BORING!!

Its funny how you can zone out quite unintentionally. I was once doing my 5m safety stop while watching some Anemone Fish. Our safety stops cleared and I signaled to my buddy to ascend. I then just stayed there watching the fish until my buddy realizing I was not surfacing came and gave me a shake. I had loads of air and it had been a really relaxing dive. watching the fish seemed nicer than surfacing. Still no idea why I did it.

Yes, that would be zoning out, Kev! :D

I can do that to, but I choose not to, especially if I have a buddy. :D

Thats good. You zone out on e while diving and I will put an octopus on your head :D.

( No people we dont harass the wildlife )

I had a twenty minute safety stop watching three sailfish feed. Rather than relaxing, it was quite intense.
