Looking for opinions based on actual experience, from those who have yellow split fins. Brands would include the usual suspects. Trying to determine which of these high-viz fins, has the stiffest blades and offers the best performance.

I have a pair of yellow Atomic Aquatics split fins. They're a perfect balance between a paddle fin and floppy split fin like Apollo. I liked the Apollos when I tried them in the pool, but in the end, I decided that I felt more comfortable with the Atomics. They're quite a bit stiffer than the Apollos, but swimming in the straight line, I still get the great benefit of split fins, which is very low exertion (it does require a somewhat different kicking style, though... more of a flutter kick then whole leg movement). With my old Mares Avanti Quatros (paddle fins) I used to get some pretty bad cramps in my legs at the end of the dive, but I've never, ever experinced that with my Atomic Split Fins. Highly recommended, but in the end, opinions of people on the Internet don't really matter... you should try them out for yourself, to see what YOU think of them. There are also many die hard fans of the Apollo Bio fins, and the yellow version is a bit stiffer than the black ones, so that may be an option for you as well.

These two things are polar opposite. The stiffest will be Atomic, but the most efficient, fastest (best performance) will the the most flexible - the Apollo. Do not equate stiff with good performance. (in fins anyway:D )

And the Tusa Zooms will sit about mid between those two.

never said they were the same thing! and i don't agree that the two characteristics are necessarily mutually-exclusive. you azz-umed incorrectly. consider the scubapro twin-jets black. fairly stiff and great perfomance both, imo.

I have to agree with Larry (and also from having tried many split fins). The "floppy" Apollo Bio-fins are the best.

Are you looking for opinions? Then let the guy give his.

I personally own the Twin Jets in yellow (first pair of fins I bought, good stuff a little too floppy, could use a little Viagra on those) and I have the Atomics in yellow. Like the Twin Jets, love the Atomics, stiff responsive and very comfortable. I also have the Jet Fins which I use quite a bit. Call me crazy for having 3 pairs of fins, it is ok my shrink does it all the time.

Try the yellow Apollo Bio-Fin Pros. Get the C-Series with the spring straps. Incredible fins.

yo yawker...i did let him share his opinion. and i replied with another opinion of mine.

We tried the atomics and they were too stiff for us. We weren't able to go very fast and quickly got sore ankles. These tests were in a pool. We were using the preferred quick flutter kicks. Switched to Tusa zooms and - WOW what a difference. We could move a lot faster with much less effort. No sore ankles and we could kick for a good long time before tiring. Oceanic Caribe FF fins were comparable to the Tusa Zooms - great fins.
