I bleed them pretty slowly. I zip tie a towel around the valve to cut down on the hissing noise...can't stand it.
 
In 1971, I approached the airline ticket counter at Dulles and asked if they would transport my tanks. They said 'yes' but only if the cylinders were empty. I cracked the valves on a single and set of doubles and let 'em blast away right next to the counter. Nobody seemed to pay any attention to this disturbance. Was a different world in those days. However, on returning through Miami, customs asked a slew of questions and even threatened to remove the valves from the tanks (NPT thread). They didn't (no chain vise) but they got revenge by charging me $10.00 duty on a liter of rum. They said that a liter was over the 1 quart duty free limit.
