Just the info i've been looking for.
Which would be better for the diving, Ra Divers of VoliVoli resort or Wananevu divers of Wananevu Resort.
Deciding who to stay with now but will be with wifes parents so trying to keep all parties happy.
RA divers at Volivoli I believe is the better way to go. When I was staying at Volivoli there were guests that came over from neighboring Wananavu because of a wedding that had taken over the resort. Volivoli has a serious dive operation focused on meeting the needs of the divers staying there. They are used to catering to the experienced diver. Never having stayed at Wananavu, I can't really comment on their facilities or dive op, but I was satisfied with my stay at Volivoli and would book them again.

Next year is our 25th wedding anniversary and would like to plan a trip to Fiji. I have tons of questions. I'd like to go for 2 weeks and may split time between on land and liveaboard. Also need to note that I live in Canada so options for "packages" may be more limited than someone in LA or AUS
  • what time of year is best to go (weather/value)
  • best dive locations (my husband is NOT interested at all in shark dives)
  • resorts that cater to divers?
  • any all-inclusives? That are worthwhile?
  • is it better to rent a house and find a dive shop?
  • When is the water the warmest?
Also would like to experience the island itself.

Any advice on how to approach planning this trip would be appreciated.
The best time of year to dive in Fiji is between May to November when its not so hot and the viz is best although in some areas - like Bligh Water and Namena Reserve , the viz isn't affected by the rainy season as the reefs are so far from land.

Bligh Water has the prettiest soft corals - the Vatu I Ra Marine Park is spectacular - the downside is that its weather dependent and is around a 40 minute trip. Rainbow Reef is also pretty and the distances shorter from Taveuni.

The all inclusives are done as many of the dive resorts are remote and there is no option to go and eat elsewhere. There are not many stand alone dive shops - Taveuni Ocean Sports services the air bnbs for Rainbow Reef.

The water is warmest around January and February but its too warm! Dive in Fiji between May to December !
