I use a DR Rec EXP. It's great with my double steel 120s. But, no way I would use it for a single tank. It's just too big. By the time the wing tacos up around a single tank, the dump valve is not positioned appropriately to be able to vent all the gas from the wing when desired.

For a back plate, I have used Deep Sea Supply, Blue Reef, and, now, a Freedom Contour plate.. The FC is definitely the nicest, for single tank. It is ONLY for single tank, actually. For doubles, the Blue Reef is the least expensive back plate I've seen and it works just fine. After using the BR for a while and then getting the FC plate for single tank, I sold my stainless steel DSS plate. I had no use for it anymore and I sold it used for more than a new BR plate cost.

You can find a lot of companies willing to sell you on the virtues of dual bladders, shoulder padding, quick release buckles, integrated this and that. It's a miracle that I am able to dive tropical, British Columbia, deep wrecks and shallow reefs off California with a simple Freedom plate and wing. I have a single piece harness, plate and wing. It works for all of my diving.

Well, I suppose that if you’re a dedicated jacket style afficiacianado and you spent 1400 on the Atomic, it would be the only BCD you’d ever buy. That works for some. With the way I care for my gear, I could probably be happy with the Atomic for 30 years.
