How would one go about attaching such a diffuser?
Be creative. Zip Ties, bungee cord, etc. It can be ugly as long as it is effective. Someone had posted their diffuser with a hinge on it.

With a pair of scissors and a lighter, you could cut a round diffuser a little bigger than the light head, and using some thicker bungee tie a circle which fits tightly just behind the light head. Then three or four light bungees can go from the diffuser to the circle at the light head. It can be as simple as you want, or if you have a machine shop as complicated as you want. With some simple wood working tools you could make something out of plastic. The options are unlimited.
