What's the best overall single tank wing while using HP steel 100 in south fl. Been looking around and the hog 32# and dive rite voyager 35# look like possible choices but what do you think?

First determine your ballast requirements. The ballast required is mostly a function of the buoyancy of your exposure suit.

If your basic "rig" (back plate, reg, harness and empty tank) provides more ballast than you need change something, less negative back plate, less negative cylinder etc. Remember the solution to being overweighted is never a larger BC /wing.

Now take a look at how much lift capacity you need. Enough to float your rig with a full tank if you ditch it, and enough to compensate fro the maximum change in buoyancy of your exposure suit.

In warm water it is usually floating the rig with a full tank that governs.

Once that you have some idea of the required capacity research your choices in wings in that range.

Aluminum freedom plate

Are you suggesting I have too much natural floatation (ie-fat)? :D

No! I was only looking at the system flotation. (i.e. whole rig, no diver)

I cant say which is best, I have only used one single tank wing its the Halcyon Eclipse 40 and I have never had any issues with it.

My idea of best is based on overall quality and customer feedback, durability, and profile. I spent months using the search feature on this site and by emailing retailers. I ended deciding that the "best" for me (and my situation) was the OxyCheq Extreme series wings. I own and 18lb. for travel and the a 30lb. for normal cold water use.
The Extreme material is impressive and the "doughnut" style wing is very low profile in the water.
Overall quality is excellent and the built-in STA's are a nice feature, especially for travel.

Good luck with your search.

Best single tank wing around is the Halcyon Eclipse 30lb.

What is the difference in size between the two wings?

About 12 lbs.:rofl3:

Can't resist a guess based on your description: Sounds like you dive a DSS.

Some considerations:

Construction: The thickness of the inner bladder, and the type of material it's made from. Another item to look at is if the inner bladder is matched to the dimensions of the outer shell. Some wings have a bladder that is actually bigger than the outer shell, which can lead to a lot of folds and wrinkles in the inner bladder. I have one wing that's made this way, and another that isn't.

Durability: There are a few different materials used in the external construction of wing. There are plenty of debates to be found here. Consider the thickness of the inner bladder.

Streamlined: Some wings with the same advertised lift will be wider than others. I think the HOG wing might be a little wider than some others. This may or may not matter to you.

Warranty/Customer Service: A quick search here will reveal which companies have good customer service and which ones don't.

Price: Quality lasts long after the price has been forgotten.

I wouldn't presume to know what"s the "best". Personally I use a certain wing that is 30 lbs. of lift, it's a horseshoe shape, very narrow and streamlined, has a bladder constructed of the thickest and possibly most durable inner material. It's outer shell is constructed of ballistic nylon, and it has lettering along the sides that are orange in color.

Have fun shopping.
