Key Largo is a lot of fun... and it's easy to get to.

Key Largo - I would recommend Blue Water Divers - PM ScubaBoard Member KeyLargoBrent - owner

or a little further south in Tavernier is Conch Republic Diver - PM CaptGary - owner

Both of these ops are SB members, and they both run great boats...

As others have said - If you want to dive the Eagle or "Conch Wall" go with CaptGary

For SG or Duane... call or PM KeyLargoBrent.

As a "local" I can tell you the best diving for a "tourist" is the lower keys.
Less commercial, more wrecks, bigger variety. We dive a few days a week year round and travel up and down the Keys

Really?! I guess Big Pine is considered the lower keys? I always think of the lower keys as being just Key West and the diving is horrible. (Well, still 100 times better than a quarry in New Jersey, but you know what I mean.) Big Pine is like a hour a way, but I suppose they do have a few wrecks. What locations do you like in the lower keys?

the upper keys; alligator light north to carysfort light, has far more reef structure than anywhere else in the keys. molasses north to carysfort has been off limits to spearfisherman for 35 years(fish density is far greater than any other reef tract in the fknms except for the dry tortugas). spearfishing is also prohibited in state waters(3 miles from shore) from long key north to carysfort. the city of washington, benwood, spiegel, duane, bibb, eagle, canabis cruiser and a few barges off pickels and south of the eagle. thats alot of wrecks!!!!!!!!!

I like diving out of Marathon. Sombrero Light has some easy, shallow, relaxing reef dives and the Thunderbolt, with those two HUGE groupers that hang out in the lazarette or by the screws is, IMHO, one of the best Keys dives going.

And I'll continue to plug SilentWorld. Good (small and fast) boats, good people, great rates and will take you to some great dive sites that many operators won't/don't go to.
