We are planning a trip to Baja in June. Can anyone tell us where to find the best diving? Cabo San Lucas, Cabo San Jose or somewhere in between? Thanks for your help.

Anyone ever been to Loreto?

Yes - highlight was diving with sealions. Tons of starfish and puffers, some garden eels. Boat trips were somewhat longer than I expected (20-30min.) Bring earplugs to sleep at night. Beautiful islands. Saw group of dolphins during the boat ride.

I think Sunk may be referring to diving in Cabo, rather than Loreto.

I spent a few days in Loreto and loved it, though I only did one dive while there. We stayed at and dove with Baja Outpost (http://www.bajaoutpost.com/), which was very low key and just what we were looking for. The place isn't terribly fancy, but the rooms are clean and nice and the owner is a great guy. We had cocktails at this place a couple of times, and it would be an excellent choice for someone looking for something more upscale: http://www.posadadelasflores.com/.

The diving we did was nothing special, though the operation was well run and the equipment we rented was in nice shape.

you can dive some pretty cool spots. The wreck of the Salvaterra,an old ferry boat, when I was there there were a lot of moreys to be seen. In fact I got some of the best pics I've eveer taken of moreys there. There is a big pinnicle (can't think of it's name right now)that at the right time of year hammerheads are know to frequent. There is also a island that is know for the sea lions, I think it's called Los Islotes. Whale sharks can be found there also, only problem is you have to find the right time of year for La Paz. The viz is not good year round, if you go make sure you get good info from a good shop or operation before you go. I enjoyed staying there and the eats were good also. IMHO, Roger

Went in 2003 when conditions weren't great, and plan to go back for a long weekend in 2005. Would recommend Dolphin Dive Center.

Have also been to La Paz. Longer boat rides, but some great sites!
