i've been looking into diving the great caves in mexico. what shop is the best place to do it (technical diving facility) and competitive rates? thanks!

Well, first question is, are you cave certified? Or are you looking to do cavern tours?

Lynne poses a great question...and it does make a difference.

The shop I suggest in either case is Aquanauts, owned by Dennis Weeks, aka Pez de Diablo here on the board. Very personal service.

i've done a full cave course last may. i'm also thinking of doing further cave courses. what's the next best course to take?

Since you've only been certified 2 months I would get as much experience as possible first before taking another course. Task loading with new skills while trying to reinforce newly learned skills can make for a bad combination.

I have friends who booked veteran underwater cave explorer Steve Gerard and just couldn't stop talking about the sights they saw! A quick search of the internet didn't tell me what his company name is, maybe someone else out there can help out with that...

So, if you are just looking for a guide, there are a lot of good suggestions here. I really like Dennis Weeks (Pez de Diablo here on SB) who is an extremely nice man. My husband has done guided dives with him and really enjoyed them. Another choice would be German Yanez of Yucatech. He is also an extremely nice man, with a track record of a lot of exploration and survey. Steve Bogaerts would be another good choice. Some of it depends on where you will be staying, as well. We stay in Puerto Aventuras, so these guys are all reasonable for us.

I disagree that all the best caves are south, especially at the full cave level.

Steve hasn't done much exploration in a while now. Mostly he spends his time of late removing cave history and changing lines. Would recomend against going with him.

Dennis Weeks (Aquatech), Steve Bogarts (Aztec Diving), or Chris/Danny/Fred (Zero-g) will all show you a fantastic time.
