The old Liberators never were much good to begin with but the Mares MR 12 1st stage is almost identical to the one sold now.
The metal Mares 2nd stages you have are probably better than their current plastic models.

So i have found some hog 1st/2nd for $179.. I think this is the bp1 first. I would still need to get a din/yoke conversion... But what do you guys think? Bp1 any good compared to d1... Really want to have something that can easily be serviced and for a long time.

We have over a dozen D1 regs between the wife and I and some of our friends locally have the BP1. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the hog regs. As for service, HOG worked with TDI to develop a course that teaches divers to service their regulators so just buy a case of service kits and take the course and you won't have to worry about that...

You might hangout at your LDS. Occasionally you find some great deals on ,discontinued or display items, brand new with warranties . I got a brand new Mares Limited(metal)$199 ,Tusa530 $180, and a serviced but used Titan (with shops warranty) $150. And theres always something being sold/traded ,or somebody moving on to the "next new thing" that will give a good deal on "last years" model.

My local shop has used Scubapro MK2/G250/R190 w/ SPG setups for sale in the $175 range at the moment. Not sure if they will ship or not but if you are interested I'll give you their info.

Some shops also turn over their rental gear from time to time. Serviced and with a warranty. Some mfg's require shops to do this and you can often find deals with them.

Correct as long as the OP has the pre-requisites necessary to take the course.

Mares Ranger MR12 at Leisure Pro, 149.95.
Its a balance 1st stage + 2nd stage. Nothing fancy, but reliable.
