I'm trying to plan a honeymoon trip in late August and I'm debating between Little Cayman and Belize. My fiance and I both dive but she likes to stick closer to the surface. We can both agree that we want a relaxing environment, a nice beach, good food and lots of fishes to swim with. Any suggestions between these two destinations? :bfish:

I think Little Cayman Beach Resort fits the bill on all counts. She'd miss a few things by not going deeper, but one of the claims to fame there is how shallow the wall starts. (I'll bet she would get tempted.) There are a couple other places people like on LC too and I'm sure you'll get comments on those.

I've only done a liveaboard in Belize so can't comment on places there, but Turneffe Island Lodge sounds like a place you might want to look into.

Go to Little Cayman!

Make it three votes for Little Cayman.

However, if you do want to do Belize, go to one of the atoll sites (Turneffe Island Lodge, Blackbird, or Manta on Glovers Atoll). IMHO, Ambergris Caye is too touristy to fit the bill for what you probably are looking for in a honeymoon. The atolls are much more secluded and uncrowded and offer alot more pure relaxation time.

Check out Conch Club Condominiums on Little Cayman if you are looking for a little privacy. They are usually mostly empty and you get the feeling of being there alone. You can enjoy your own pool (if they are mostly empty) and there is a dock with a tiki hut out at the end of it. Tres romantique!

I also have to recommend Little Cayman - we have been to there as well as Ambergris Caye (among others). We stayed at Little Cayman Beach Resort, and really liked it there, but they had troubles with one of their boats so we were put on Conch Club Divers' boat instead. The crew at CCD were par exellance, can't say enough good about them! The condos for CCC looked nice too, and we chatted with several of the other folks on that boat who were staying at CCC, and they had no complaints.

If you should choose Belize, check out Casa Caracol if you'd rather have a beach house to yourselves for the honeymoon.

Both locations (Ambergris Caye & Little Cayman) are nice and have nice beaches, but be aware both have significant turtle grass in the shallows. If you're looking for beaches like Grace Bay in Turks & Caicos, these islands aren't them.

Was in LC last Summer and Ambergris Caye the Summer before that. I feel that LC has better diving but no top-side activity. Ambergris Caye is a cool little town with plenty of evening activities, but the best diving is our around the Atolls. The downside is both have lots of seagrass in the shallow water however....neither suck. Good luck!

If she's going to be your dive buddy, and if you're going to be her apres-dive buddy (nudge :10: nudge), you might want to consider some alterations to your dive profile.

Once you've seen the shark and the tarpon and whatever occasionaly wanders by at depth, you'll most likely turn your attention back to the surface to 45' deep zone- where most of the life is, anyway. The critters are smaller, harder to find, but once the thrill has worn off of Mr. Big, it's the little stuff that counts. :11ztongue

This same rule applies in most marriages as well.

Do yourself (and her) a favor- stick close to her side and enjoy your first married dives together. She'll be :dazzler1:

You can go out and play deep next time with the boys. For now? Stick with her like glue.

If you're not into a lot of varied activities, Little Cayman is the place. Here's what there is to do on LC:

1. Dive, Dive, Dive!! either from shore or boat
2. Ride a bike around the island and look at the crabs and Iguanas
3. rent a car and drive around the island and look at the crabs and
Iguanas
4. Hang out at the Conch club resort bar, swimming pool, or beach
5. Hang out at the Iguana Restaurant and bar
6. Hang out at the airport and watch the other tourists arrive
7. Sleep or read a book
8. Make Love!!!

For a honeymoon, I vote for Number 8, then number 1, then number 3, then number finally number 7.
:dazzler1:

Thanks Barracuda2,
I love those numbers.
