Personal opinion - Belize is a two week vacation destination.

A week of diving and a week inland. Both are awesome and both are well worth the trouble!!!!!
 
Yes - makes sense especially given the airfare from chicago - If im going might as well make it worth the while - gonna shoot for spring 11 - thanks again
 
You might want to shoot for late spring 2011 so you can do whale sharks. Later this year you could check splashbelize.com to get the dates for whale shark dives in 2011. About 40% of Belize is protected as reserves and the majority of these are in the southern part of Belize. The same is true of Maya ruins. Placencia is a good place to work from to do the inland tours as it is in the south and as close to these attractions as any other dive destination and several of them are closer to Placenicia than anywhere else. Splash does inland tours as well as diving and has alliances with a number of resorts and hotels that range from luxury to economy.
