Hi...I'm arriving on Saturday and normally one of my first activities upon island arrival is to head to Mega for snacks and beer for the room. Wondering what folks think is the best beer sold there, or if you know of places which might have a good selection also. Thanks.

Bohemia Obscura buy a case you can thank me later.

I go for SOL lager or Negro Leon (really special) for a dark beer.

That depends on what you like. Bohemia Obscura is absolutely my favorite beer in the world. I'm not a beer snob, but prefer amber beers. I Don't like IPA's or stouts. Bohemia Obscura is darker than an amber, but not a dark beer either. I like mine very cold.

We also play a game at Mega, we have to pick one item we have never seen in America before and try it. No reason not to do that on the beer aisle!

Grocery stores have limited hours you can buy beer but I can't remember what they are. It was either 9 or 11 pm, I believe convenience stores can sell later. Not sure about Sunday either.

Enjoy a very cold Bohemia Obscura for me...or 10.

Good luck, safe travels!

To my surprise, Mega actually had a small and pricey display of American craft-ish brews that I can't recall but believe were AB-InBev brands that probably get imported by Grupo Modelo. Goose Island, maybe?

Like the other beer geeks here, I like Bohemia Obscura. It is a dark lager, like Negra Modelo. (Some beer geeks even classify them as Vienna lagers, and credit immigrant German brewmasters.) The light-colored Mexican lagers all taste more or less the same to me. Do the major Mexican brewers even produce an ale?

With a bit of luck, you may be able to find their Xmas beer, Noche Buena.
Cases of that stacked in the aisle at Chedraui the other day. As to beers...for supper I like Bohemia Obscura or Negra Modelo, depending on what they carry. During the day I drink Sol Limon y Sal. It is pretty light so perfect for sipping in the heat of the day.

Have you tried Bohemia's Christmas-time-only Chocolate stout?
