Most of the resorts (LCBR, Conch Club, The Club, Southern Cross, Paradise Condos, are on a shallow lagoon. It's a great stretch of beach for taking a long walk and exploring, and the beaches at the resorts are narrow but fine for relaxing. (There is a narrow strip of sand most of the way around the island.) Not as good for swimming in most places. For example in front of Little Cayman Beach Resort it's shallow with lots of turtle grass and you never see anyone swimming, though that might be partly because most people feel sufficiently waterlogged from diving. I suppose you could.
Over the years, I've tried. LCBR's a bit too "eel grassy" for me, although one could probably go for a dip off the dock if there's no diveboats around. At Paradise, its rocky shallows. IIRC, there's a decent beach just to the west of Pirate's point that's a recommended snorkeling spot.
One thing you could do is kayak out to Owen Island which out a ways in the lagoon, I've never gotten around to it but I think swimming and snorkeling might be a better option out there.
Or swim /wade out, while carrying a bottle of wine under the diveskin The shortest distance is from the 'Head of Bay' dock (private property). There are okay sandy shallows on the lee side of Owen Island, but I'd take a boat next time.
I've always heard Point of Sand at the far east end of the island is a good beach with snorkeling but you have to get there, long bike ride or hitch a ride from someone. I'm sure there are other beach spots to go if you know them.
Point of Sand ... most of the sand is on shore, so it has some interesting rocky ledges near shore to snorkel around. Go on a day when its calm, as the eastern point is to windward.
Another spot to consider would be the shore diving entry site for Cumber's Caves on the northside. Might also want to inquire what's at Sam McCoy's resort on the north side, as a friend of mine goes there and does shore dives in the afternoons without a rental car.
