Every year Monterey and Carmel have numerous car shows and this year, traffic is just as bad. Plan extra travel time and perhaps find a good pub to let traffic wind down. Yesterday, it took me an hour and 15 minutes to get from Breakwater to Lobos. Fun... Travel safe!

Thanks for the heads up. Anyone aware of anything going on end of next week/weekend that could cause the same issues?

Heading down to Monterey/Carmel tomorrow for diving and golf on Sunday. Just saw this. Anyone have any details on what's happening the next few days?

Today we saw traffic delays on Rt. 1 from 68 to Lobos around 9:00. Took about 30 minutes. Leaving at 5:00 was much worse. Took more than 30 minutes to get to Aquarius on Del Monte (from Lobos), then 2 hours more to get to San Jose, but some of that might just be leaving at 5:00.

Traffic bogs down around 0800 once you get into the Salinas junction on Ca-1S. In the evening it's stop and go until around 8pm going CA-1N. The most aggravating part is there's usually no reason at all, people just take way too long to accelerate and when they do, they usually overshoot and end up stopping dead to avoid a collision.

On the plus side construction is pretty much in the final phases, so there's now two separate lanes and a overpass for the Salinas Junction; southbound. That should help a bit.

Ugh! I am heading down to Monterey on Saturday for the DUI DOG event to try dry suit diving for the first time! Will have to sleep on the beach after diving until the traffic dies down this weekend!

I think we're in the clear this weekend. At least from the PB car stuff. FWIW, there's almost always traffic 4pm-7pm or so going 101N on the weekends due to the red barn flea market thing.
