Brass is MUCH easier to work with than SS, but it does have the electrolysis problem if in contact with a dissimilar metal. (even another brass alloy)
As long as you don't have any other metal in constant contact with it, you should be good to go for several years in saltwater, or nearly indefinate in fresh.
 
Go to www.McMaster.com and do a search for spur grommets. You will find SS rolled-rim spur grommets on page 3433. Get them and the matching hand die set. They worked for my BC when I wanted to shift the mounting points on my wing.

The only problem with the Mcmaster-carr hand die sets is that they are so expensive.:eek:
