Thats cool ed....
Interesting because that is just one of the things I like about the bp and wing. My vest cumberbund was never really as tight as I would have liked it to be....but...with the way I can tighten up the bp and wing stomach strap...it never moves like my vest style did.

If you ever slide down to NC and I am in the area....not on the road working...I would be glad you let you try out my rig. Take care/

I would take you up on your offer but I live in the UK and I don't see myself coming to the US too soon. If I do though you better expect a call from me.

Wow, thanks for educating me. Nice to hear from folks with experience in all conditions. I know I will be diving in warm water for now. Honestly, I don't even want to try cold water until I have a little more experience.

I do like the idea of just changing out the wing for a specific dive even though for now I'm guessing all I would need for a while is a travel wing? I will be flying/driving to most of my dive destinations so a big bulky jacket would make this difficult.

Hi there,

Just one question...are back plates for Tech diving?? I am presently also searching for a light compact BCD.

Jazz

Yep....def used in tec diving. Most will have the continuous webbing straps versus the harnesses with release clips.

Careful there Rich!

Jazz - there are many people on this board who love their backplate and wing even though they only dive single tank recreational dives.

For what it's worth, if you get an AL or travel plate and a small wing, I defy you to come up with a smaller, lighter or easier to pack BC.

Yes and no. Back plates certainly are used for tech diving but they're also used recreationally. I have a BP/Wing which I use for your run of the mill "no-deco" recreational dives. A lot of people do the same. If you search around the board you'll find a lot of people are doing the same. You'll also find a lot of "I finally tried a BP/Wings and it's great. I can't believe I didn't try one sooner!" posts.

As for light weight and compact, an AL plate and wing is hard to beat.

Anyone know of an AL backplate that is compatible with the JET harness? JET makes a titanium one, but that's a bit out of my price range...

I'm pretty sure it will fit on any backplate. Most backplates have the slots for the harness cut the same. I would just get a simple harness made our of webbing, but that's just me.

Hi there Boogie

I presume you use a back plate, do you have pictures of it?
I have been diving quite a while but only now decided to get my own gear. I have friends who do Tech diving and their gear is horrendously massive, like they have 101 things tangling all over.

I also know some Tech divers are pretty swanky, snooty coz they are the great Tech divers so since I am not one of them, I feel I am not worthy of a back plate type BCD.

I think I will go with the Dive Rite Transpac 11

That's easy, I have taken this challange before. Zeagle Scout. It may pack a tad larger but weighs less than a al BP/30lb wing. Weight is just shy of 4 lbs dry.
