No manufacturer makes poor gear (from a life support standpoint), if they did, they would have been litigated out of business by now.
What you need to ask is "Which BC is most suited for the amount and type of diving I will be doing and for my experience level?"
Every diver can defend his or her choice of gear with a sound, reasonable discussion (some just choose not to be sound OR reasonable) Anyone who has been diving has also made some poor and ill advised purchases as well. We learn from our experience. Best advice I ever heard was "RENT, RENT, RENT, different gear for the first 20-30 dives, then buy what you liked"
