ps... Scott, hold the check for this one... :) hahahahaha

I was being facetious ... in reality nobody's really trying to "sell" anything. We're all just offering advice on what we know and like.

Q: What's the best gear available?
A: The stuff I purchased ... ;)

Or, in my case, the stuff I purchased to remedy the shortcomings in the stuff I bought to replace the lousy gear I got when I thought I knew what the best gear was. ;)

A: *NOT* the trash I purchased and then had to sell for a loss so that I could get the good stuff.

But the thing is, that's very subjective ... and completely dependent on the goals and experiences of the diver.

Ironically, the single most expensive mistake in dive gear I've made to date has a big blue H on it ...

Just cause it's Halcyon doesn't mean it doesn't suck.

Halcyon didn't invent the bp/wing, either. Nor are they the only ones who make it.

Bummer. I'm often pleased I didn't buy Halcyon when I got my BP (Abyss) and wing (Oxycheq), although I do have an Explorer wing that I bought second-hand and enjoy using with singles.

To answer logan's original question though, I have a friend who really likes his Zeagle Ranger, and most of what I've heard about them is good. If you're looking at back-inflate systems, I'd recommend checking out Dive-Rite's Transpac II also.

Bullseye!

for a double-bullseye the real answer is "the stuff I purchased last".

I do get a little tired of the jacket vs. bp/wing thing. I have one of both and my buoyancy control and trim are excellent either way.

Having said that, I wouldn't recommend something I haven't personally used. I need to know it works well for me before I'll recommend it (or not). It's natural for someone to do that.

Um ... I know. I own five backplates (by four different companies) and six wings (by four different companies) ... none of it is Halcyon.

Well, if you want a negative opinion of the Zeagle Ranger - then PM me.
