BC or BCD?

Formal, working with students introducing them to the correct nomenclature....BCD. I have to make this a concious effort thought to actually say BCD vs. BC, it's just so much simpler.

Any other time BC. Voted BC too.

BC is the correct nomenclature. It stands for Buoyancy Compensator.

I don't get "poodle jacket" either. Wouldn't "puddle jacket" be more appropriate? Not that I condone picking on people for a gear choice, but shouldn't the term at least make sense? Maybe I'll start calling my bp/w a SSC (scuba superhero cape).

A name that doesn't make make sense for a device that doesn't make sense.

Walter would say that a well designed BC can be just as good as a wing. I have never seen such a thing, but he has been diving for a lot longer than I have, so I will take his word for it.

And you know this because you were already an active diver when the BC was invented? You have an excellent memory considering by the time you were born the BC was not only invented, it was rare to see a diver without one.

Of course not, that's not in the Go Dive [-]bible[/-] manual.

Oh yea, that is that baloon thingy that was invented for people that wear too much lead because they are wearing too much exposure protection and lots of light floaty plastic SCUBA stuff like colored fins and matching snorkels.

I say this because in the OW class that I took, it was referred to as a BCD. And growing up at Buddy's Dive Shop in Islamorada and hearing most of the employees referring to them as BCD's also helped. It makes sense, I go with it. It was a poll, I responded and gave my opinion. Lighten up Walter, you with over 11,000 posts should understand this.

I'm surprised none of the guys that use the vintage gear came in here and called it a "Fenzy" or a "horse collar" hahaha!
