I have had my veo 200 for a little less than 2 years. It is showing low battery. I have replaced the battery once already. The computer has only been activated about 25 times. 18 times for dives 2dives each times and the other times to download dives and to check before trips. Can anyone tell me if this is normal for the veo 200? The owners manual states that you should be able to get 50 activations. Also should the o ring be replaced each time and can these be orderd on the internet? Thank you.

While you're waiting on Oceanic to respond...

(1) Bad batteries happen. Sounds like you got one, and I bet they will be glad to replace it for you.

(2) O-rings should be replaced with the battery, I think. I'm surprised you didn't get one with the battery? Did it come in an Oceanic package, or was it after market.

This Oceanic product includes battery, O-ring, and silicone: link

tw369,

Morning,

There are a good many variables when it comes to battery life. We have some computers 8-10 years old out there with about the same amount of dives/activations as yours still going strong. I have learned that there is shelf time on batteries as well. You may have owned that Veo 200 only two years, but I believe we have been producing the Veo 250 next generation of the Veo 200 series for close to three years. Either way you probably should have had a little more life out of the original set of batts. And yes, as DandyDon suggests, it is a good idea to change out the o-ring when changing the battery. Our batt kits as you can see come with some silicone and an o-ring replacement. Shoot me a pm and I will get you a kit with our compliments.

Regards,
Darryl

TW, since you do not frequent the board here, you may not know how to PM Darryl. You can use This Link to do so...

Try to provide all needed info, like your full name, ship to addy, email addy, phone number.

Thanks for the info. I can see one bad battery. But not 2. I guess I will just have to try another one and hope for the best. Thanks again.

What kind of a battery is that? With $.25 worth of O-ring and grease that battery should last a lot longer than my $2 batteries in my Data Plus.

Assuming that wasn't a rhetorical question, the battery for the Veo 200 is a lithium CR-2450 (see page 85 of the owner's manual), which the same as for most other similar computers. Available for a few bucks from a bunch of manufacturers.

For that price, I replace all our computer batteries annually.

I'm pretty certain the neoprene o-ring size is 2-026; which is 1-1/4" inside diameter and 1-3/8" outside diameter. Available for pennies each, though through mail-order you have to order a bunch at a time. Of course, according to the owner's manual, "Use of any other [i.e., not bought from an authorized dealer] O-ring will void the warranty."

Use of any other grease will probably do likewise. :D Interesting, though, that they apparently encourage you to use any brand of batteries.

But I think (hope) the battery compartment is sealed from the electronics, so all you'd be risking (warranty-wise) is the battery. Your biggest risk is not seating the o-ring properly, which you'd be risking no matter whose o-ring you use.

Marek K,
Are you sure about the o-ring size for a veo200? Where can I get these? The Oceanic kit is $22. I can only find silicone lube in spray. I am hoping the spray will work just as good.
Thanks

Quick question

Oceanic Veo 200 and any Aeris computer are using the same O-ring size?
The battery is the same size though. I was told that Aeris highly recommends using only Sony brand CR2450.

God where do you live TW? (Might complete your profile?)

My hardware store has silicone gel, and all dives shops here to. I use it on ever dive for my moustache.
