I looked at the picture of the dead basking shark and had to ask myself, why are those people sitting on it? Eeeewwwww. It does show how large the shark is, and I'll be the people in the picture don't dive. I may certainly be wrong here, but divers seem to have a different viewpoint on sea life. While I was living in Honduras, the marlin festival was held with the "winners" hanging upside down on the dock. The fishermen were proud and happy, the divers were saddened and disgusted. The marlins didn't look like winners at all, just big dead fish who lost their lives for sport.
