Excerpting from: Man dies after being pulled from lagoon
Drowning victim was 68-year-old Aiea man

A scuba diver who died after he was found unresponsive off of Barbers Point has been identified as Steven S. Tanaka.

Tanaka, 68, of Aiea was found unresponsive about a mile from shore at 1:40 p.m. Saturday.

Ocean Safety lifeguards brought him to shore and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Emergency Medical Services responded and performed advanced lifesaving measures. Spokeswoman Shayne Enright said paramedics transported Tanaka in critical condition to a hospital where he died later that day.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said the cause of death was drowning and that the manner of death was ruled an accident.
