OK gang... give me some input.

What should (if anything) warrant a temp ban (5 day suspension)?

What should (if anything) warrant a perm ban?

Boogie and I have exchanged nice Pms.
I said something naturally to him, and he thanked me for it.
I really wasn't even expecting this.
I said, I am sorry this happened.
I truly am sorry.
I have worked hard on scuba board for many years to see it grow.
Being part of banning people is not fun for me.
I hate it.
Sadly, sometimes it is done.
We have to get through this together.

Boogie711:
What part of this do you disagree with specifically?

Being publicly called out to explain their actions to the general public, a public that is traditionally of the torch bearing variety, long before they have finished discussing it themselves.

Take a look at this thread. What started out as a [surprising in my eyes] request from the powers that be to get feedback from the user base as to what would you consider fair, became a thread accusing the mod squad of being a good 'ol boys club hypocritically covering up injustices on their part.

When someone gets banned all we can assume is that it was for TOS violations. It would be nice to see a short non-specific blurb as to why the individual was kicked.

I would rather see a suspension plan, than a banishment plan. If someone can't understand what the poor behavior is and repeats it. then that individual should probably be sent away.

Its real easy to rant and rave about what the mods do. Especially if you disagree with it. There is a tremendous amount of latitude that is given. It is difficult to see a clear line as to what is acceptable and what isn't.

A clearly written suspension plan with warnings etc... and a short post by a designated individual (not necessarily the mod in question) as to what the TOS violation was, I think, would be helpful.

If I didn't... I wouldn't have wasted countless hours/days of time and insane amounts of ulcer medication to try and explain the other side.
Good point.

What Natasha Said.... ^^^

She, unless I'm mistaken, was the first person from SB management to actually express any sort of human compassion on this issue. That goes a long way.

Thank You Boogie. You saying that helps. I also have been feeling very badly about this..as are many of the Mods.
It might not seem like it, but we are people too.
:)

I've taken the liberty of combining quotes...
Spectre:
The more discussion prior to action, the more widespread the fallout of a decision.

Agree, yank it as soon as there is a problem. If there was no cause to do so you just put everything back with a message explaining that you're sorry and grit you teeth for the inevitable *****ing and moaning that will follow. If there was just cause for removing it, banning them, etc you should explain why. Do you have to? Of course you don't, but it helps foster an atmosphere of trust and respect. I understand your concern about wasting resources explaining this while you're trying to figure things out but that is easily handled. A simple, "we're not exactly sure what is going on right now, but we'll make an official statement when we do" would suffice. Once everything is sorted out you can make a statement. All we have now is, "we not going to talk about it now... or any time for that matter!" To continue your analogy, the police provide the "we'll tell you later" statement and the courts provide the "here's the deal..." statement. Doing what I suggest will not stop all those who disagree from whining but it will go a long way to satisfy people like myself that just want to understand what happened.

I'm pretty appalled that people turned this thread in those directions. The staff as given us an opportunity to voice our opinions but the wild accusations thrown around may have ruined a valuable chance to talk directly to the moderators.

ok hears how I really feel about, yes every board has to have its guide lines, and to be honest I feel there should be Temp ban, maybe week month couple weeks who knows .
And maybe more than one chance.
I also feel that that person should be contacted, and explained why this action is being brought.
Why not a meeting i.e. Chat with couple moderator GODS and you Net DOC and talk this out so this doesn’t happen again.
And if you going to pull a thread for something someone posted at least send them PM explaining why, so we now exactly what was said that so wrong, not just yank whole thread.
I am kind of Pissed off at moderator GODS because they Yank a thread which I feel was wrong for them to do. I have read the TOS that I found and no Wear did any one break any of them rules.
If you would explain Rather Just axe US you would get more respect.

For example...

"Cornfed was banned because he violated our policy regarding the consumption of corn-on-the-cob. Scubaboard is a family forum and it is our intention that it remain as such. We do not feel that having corn kernels stuck between your teeth is inconsistent with values of the forum staff nor with the majority of our members. We appreciate your understanding in this matter."

The Mod I think abuse their power seem to avoid this thread.
They might be called to the mat on specifics and then they lose control.
Most Mods are good and just people but a few out there have abused their power to ban. And when brought to the attention of other Mods the appearance was the complaint was ignored or avoided. I'm speaking from personal experiance. So in my opinion there is no system of checking a moderator.
Not that it really matters. None of this really matter in the whole sceam of things. It is a good way to pass time when I'm bored at work though.
