Hi Murdock,

Do learn the tables, I have had a computer die on me, a few minutes into the first dive of the trip, without the tables I would have been sol. I now have 2, one for backup. Old one did not do nitrox anyway.

As for the table question, the answer is....as fast as you can swap tanks.

And than traded it back into a Vyper (and also saved about 40$ doing it).

The Aladin is a great piece of equipment, but some of the characteristics of the Vyper suit me better. Both are great computers and both have similar specs.

I decided on the Vyper, for its backlight, user replacable battary and the ability to change between imperial and metric, without the need for the PC interface. I think that the Vyper also has a larger memory capacity.

Anyway, for 255$ you have a he** of a deal. I would stick with the Vyper.

Ari :)

Glad to know you had both and decided on the Vyper, that really helps. I broke down and told the dealer about it last night, he was cool about it and said it was a nice computer. He mentioned though that the Ultra Pro has microbubble technology built in and also that it figures the water temp in with it's algorythyms to predict a more realistic dive. I think all that is way over my head right now, and since I will be doing most of my diving in the lakes here in Minnesota in waters 60 feet and less, the Vyper will do a great job. If not, I know I can always buy the Uwatec or whatever else is new and cool at the time!

Thanks again for helping me out, I feel much better about the purchase and can't wait to check it out!

Does anyone think its worth buying the PC interface? Is there good software out there that I can manually put data into, etc?

Take care all.

I think that the Vyper's (or the Suunto for that matter) algorithem is one of the more sophisticated around these days. Take a look at the description at the end (or close to the end) of the manual.

In any case, you saved nice $$ on the deal, so it might be a good idea to get the PC interface (you can get it through the net for less than a 100$). It will give you nice logging capabilities as well as graphs and other cool stuff. It is not a must but more of a nice to have.

Good luck.

Ari :D
