I like Bonaire. Been there. Got two trips planned going back.

I may even buy a house and retire there.
You are not alone, brother!

It is now between Bonaire, Saba and an island to be named later... lol

What's against Saba? The fact that everyone is in some way related to each other, and there is only boat diving...

Let's see, wake up in the morning... have a little goat's milk and some eggs... grab a few tanks and hit the dive sites... (Bonaire)... We have a leader in the race!

I looked at real estate on Bonaire a couple years ago and if you did not want ocean front, it was not outrageously priced.......by the time I am ready, they will rob you before you get off the plane

Sort of a Tom Sawyer's White Washing truth squad?

I, personally, an VERY interested in the truth, because I too have come to really love the island and am planning on returning to the island many times, and am in the process of buying a house for my retirement there too! Interested in both the truth, and all crime, and anti crime activities occurring on Bonaire, because they can and will personally effect me. No one wants crime, and everyone is hurt by it, but everyone is also hurt when rumor becomes fact because no one stood up to rumor mongers and bullying tactics.

I don't know if you have been paying attention to how bad that crime wave is now, Steve. I recently purchased airfare to the Caribbean. They are robbing you, BEFORE you even get on the plane! :shocked2:

It is just that it has been difficult on our part, as it seems when a post is made about a break in, it is the one that was at GRI. It doesn't talk about the other places that were broken into the same night (many, and just as often if not more). It is hurting our business, and we have had many emails of people who have said that they won't stay with us because of it, or who have cancelled reservations because of the posts on this board.

You would be amazed at how influential posts can be to people who want to try GRI or who haven't been here and are considering us. Yes there are ALOT of positive posts, but those others, well almost totally negate the good. It is hard.

We have been VERY proactive in upgrading our security and spending huge amounts of money doing so. I only hope that others understand, that even IF burglaries start up again, we are more than prepared.
Liz

It's unfortunate you are experiencing the financial result of Bonaire's lack of being proactive against crime, but unfortunately like the people who post their horrible personal experiences of being victims of the crime, you're a victim of it too. This is the unfortunate reality of what is going on there. Just another example that the white washers want to pretend isn't even happening there. For everyone of them that trys to lessen the harsh reality of it all, you suffer for it.

I looked at your website, and maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any mention on your website about your security. As a fellow business owner if asked, I'd advise you to be proactive. If you are seeing the evidence of the crime on Bonaire starting to effect your bookings, logically it would make sense to not pretend it isn't an issue and address it on your website by turning it into a positive and presenting your security measures. I believe the taboo subject among your fellow operators will eventually cause you all to have to face it sooner or later.

mfinley... I'm beginning to equate you with Pifi....

I'm not arguing that there isn't crime in Bonaire. I've said that the crime will never go completely away and also that the crime there isn't worse than other islands....

I'm just the only one who has actually posted some real facts about the crime. Something that no one else has bothered to do. they would just rather rant about it with "second or third hand information".

Please tell me this post is a joke!

You are kidding, correct?

If not, you just lost ANY objective possibility of redemption in reality and moved to abject doofus where Bonaire is concerned... Liz and the businesses around her are at the forefront of combating crime in Bonaire!

Liz, bart... Welcome to us "white washers" You know, those of us who have been there, and those of us who love the island... Those of us who can give a straightforward answer to questions posed... We, the white washers...

How many Bonaire websites have you visited that discussed security?

As a fellow business owner if asked
STOP THERE! Supply your website address, so we can all be; 1- sure you are a business owner, 2-understand what business you are in, 3- can address your business security and proactive measures there-in...

Liz is at the forefront of the groups and businesses attempting to thwart crime on Bonaire, and you just "off-handedly" insulted her and the efforts of a multitude of other business owners to thwart crime in Bonaire before Holland takes control....

Redeem yourself by telling me this is a joke...

You have single handedly insulted a person, an organization and a group of business owners who stand up for the "vacationers and divers to Bonaire" and confront the government on our behalf to better our experience, protect and make life safer for the whole of Bonaire!
