I've only had my cert. about a year, and am way far from being qualified to tell divers way more experienced than myself what they should do, but here's my 1/2 cent worth. Scariest dive of my short career was 100+ feet in 8' vis. I was following my buddy down a line across a silty bottom, and BOY! was the silt just a'billowin! I finally managed to get her attention, called the dive, and rolled to head back to the ascent rope. When I did, I managed to remove both her reg and her mask from her face. Somehow she got her mask back on and her alternat in her mouth. As neither of us had a spare mask with us, what ended up being a really scary dive that taught us more than anything how serious diving is, could have ended tragically. I vote for the spare.
