Backscatter is shipping the new flip up filter!!!

So I got all my goodies in the mail... and more!! For some reason there is a Backscatter Custom GoPro Underwater Housing Protective Cap and a 55mm Red Magic Filter for Backscatter Custom GoPro Housing in the box as well. Never going to use them because I got all Go-Pro stuff... Maybe one day I will find somebody who lives close and has the Backscatter housing...

Quick question: By not having a LCD screen on the GoPro I won't be able to see if the filter is turning everything red on shallow depths.

Would it be an appropriate method to check that by flipping up the filter and looking through it with my bare eyes?

Can anyone clarify that?

Dont think you will be able to tell. Your eyes are much more sensitive to colors then any camera. Things may still look red at deeper depths. Personaly I would just spend the $80 and get the LCD bacpac. Not only will you be able to see if the video is turning to the red spectrum of the scale, but you will be able to frame shots. Makes a huge difference.

Here is a video that I shot with no filters at all. This is filmed in Malibu Ca on a sunny day with ok viz. You can see that some of it is green (when under the kelp) and the rest of it is blue. max depth was 28 feet with an average of around 23 feet.

I cant wait to get my filter. Ordered it on Friday and haven't got an email saying when it will ship. Hope I have it before my trip to Catalina island.
