Your doing it all wrong, backward rolls are are for girls that can't carry their gear to the edge of the boat.

Don't think I'd do that exit.....or at least would have fins in hand.......

I back roll of my boat,and is my entrance of choice, even with my doubles and 1 stage..........While I don't do charters much, several weeks ago I jumped on a club charter, we did a live boat drop, but the DM in charge wanted ALL to have fins on, well I wiped out on the way to the Swim Platform....would have been much easier with fins in hand, I ignored his requests on the second dive and did the entry with fins in hand......Thank the man upstairs I was'nt wearing my doubles............

Only did a back roll entry when I was on a zodiac boat, never had a problem with it because I'm always having my hands on the mask. Other then that, I usually do the giant stride because I'm always on a large ship.
