I'm a Fish!
I have researched some on Halcyon, OMS, Dive Rite, and Oxcheq bp/ws... Is there more bp/w that I didn't listed?

I am not quite sure what are the differences in that bp/ws above and more... Would you please explain the pros and cons of each bp/w? It would be greatly apprenicated.

Thanks. :14:

There's also the DSS BP/W. http://deepseasupply.com/index.html

Quite a few people on this board use it, including me. One good feature is the nice intgegrated STA on the single wing. Another is the grommets around the strap openings to prevent wear on the harness. They also make weight plates for adding weight to the rig as needed.

More BPs, Wings

Apeks, Zeagle, Fred T.

Ah, well, no. Don't have the knowledge or time. But here are a few (not all by any means) things to look for:

Wing:

Pounds of lift.
Donut verses horseshoe.
Single verses duel bladder.
Material.
Fabric & bladder, or single material.
Hose length.
Volume of air retained in top (neck) of bladder.
Cost.
Bellows wing (Oxycheq) or not.

BP

AL or SS.
Number of holes.
Standardization of hole placement.
Rounded or sharp edges.
Length & width.
Single Tank Adapter - one or two piece, material & design and distance STA puts tank away from plate.
Cost.

Like I said, there is more, but that's a start.

JW,

You've asked a very broad question, perhaps impossible for any one person to answer.

Almost all currently available BP&W's are very similar. Pretty much any BP&W will offer advantages when compared to jacket style BC's.

There are very few that I'd recommend avoiding.

Having said that there are differences.

For BackPlates: Plate sizing and profile, finish, deburring, Bend angle, center channel depth, harness slot location, Camstrap Slots for use without a STA, Material, hole size and location are the ones that may or may not be of importance to you.

For Wings: Construction Type, hose lenght, inflator type, materials of both shell and bladder, available in appropriate lift capacity for your use, over all profile, and ease of use are criteria that you may want to investigate.

To shorten your list I'd suggest providing a bit more info.

Where do you dive?

Using what tanks?

Using what exposure suit?

Is travel important?

With this info I can make a recommendation.

Regards,

Tobin

I understand that I asked a very broad question but I was hoping to get opinions from each member that are actually using them and explain their pros/cons of their own bp/w. But anyway...

Where do I dive? I dive anywhere. :) I moved around a lot due to the fact that I am a college student and been working on all over USA for internships.

Tanks? I currently have AL80 but will get rid of it to get PST100. Will go for dual tank in the near future. It is important for me to get bp/w that will accept both single tank and double tanks.

Exposure Suit: I have 3/2mm, 5mm, 7mm john/jacket, and DUI drysuit

Travel important? I will get AL plate (for traveling) and SS plate for else.

Opinions, anyone?

The range of your diving conditions makes a specific recommendation difficult.

Virtually every BP will accomodate either a single tank, or doubles. What changes is the wing. I would recommend against wings that claim to be suitable for singles and doubles.

Sounds like you are already aware of the benefits of a lightweight plate for travel / warm water.

Good luck,

Tobin
