The second week of January 2011 my wife and I headed to Grand Cayman for a diving vacation to thaw out from the cold NorCal weather. I emailed about 10 dive operations to get information on schedules, availability and if they had a camera dunk tank on board. Only 4 operators responded to my email and after trading information with them I narrowed my choice to Wall to Wall for our boat diving. There was one that I was looking forward to hearing from (Ambassador Divers) but was disappointed that they did not respond emails nor PM's here on Scubaboard.
Before we did any boat dives we planned on some shore diving while we were there, one dive at Fosters and one at Dive Tech. We ended up doing a boat dive in the South Sound area with Fosters because it was far too choppy to enter the water from their shore location that day. The next day we headed to the west and dove from shore at Dive Tech. Both had great staff and treated us well.
Some of the highlights and why I recommend Wall to Wall as a dive op choice:
We are not morning people when we vacation so I like to book afternoon dives but I avoid dive operations that only do 1 tank afternoons. You pay too much money for only one tank and it doesn’t make sense. Wall to Wall does 2 tank afternoon dives so that was a gold star in their favor right away. They worked around our schedule to pick us up at our hotel and took us directly to the dive shop which is dockside. When we arrived at the shop, the service was first class from carrying our gear to the boat to setting everything up for us. Each member of the staff including the owner Giles and all of his dive masters were friendly and helpful each step of the way.
The dive boat is very nice with a deep vee hull design and lots of room which was good because there was some windy weather the entire week we were there and a stable boat was important with the chop in West Bay. The camera tank had fresh water each day and the fresh water shower water was reasonably warm at rear of the boat to rinse after diving. The dive masters took us to some super locations and had good knowledge of the critters we saw during each dive. Several of the staff also had good knowledge with underwater cameras and gave my wife and I some tips on using our Nauticam setup. What a great experience!
I can't say enough good about the staff and operation during our stay but if you have any questions you are welcome to message me.
