I'll be in Cabo during the end of August and I was wondering what wet suit to use.

Some recommend a 3 mill full others recommend only a Polyolefin full. Last July I used only a vest in PV on a 2 tank dive.

I plan on 2-3 dives a day over a 3 day period.

Any suggestions????

Also, any opinions on Manta??

Thank You,
Lee

You should have water temps. in the low 80's in Cabo or Cabo Pulmo. If your heading out to some of the far out sites (Gordo Banks, etc..) this might vary.

Hello You wont need a wet suit that time of year.Manta is a very small shop near the beach i did not like the looks of it when I saw it.
I have dove with Baja Dive two times and was very happy with the service. they take only small groups 4 to 6 Divers with a DiveMaster. Gear was new and air was good. They are located in the Tesoro Resort on the Marina I think the web site is www.baja-dive.net

I've actually heard a lot of good things about Manta. We're diving with them in September.

So far, through the research I have done, it looks like Underwater Diversions and Manta are both good.

I got an email from the people at Manta and they suggested a 3mm suite for August. This sounds a bit too warm for me. I might just go for a 0.5mm full and call it a day. Also, the 0.5 will be great under my 7mm because lately here in SoCal it been a bit too COLD.

I don't know that I would shelve that 3mm. I was there last August and water temps were in the 70's. I would have been cold had I not had on my full 3m. I saw very few divers in anything less.

I agree, after several dives the 3 mm full may just be right, it's what I have used many times in Cabo.

Damn.....There goes my perfect wet suit plan......lol

WaterWayne:
...Last year, I used a .5mm, tropical weight suit on second dives, twice...

Scubabum2:
... last August and water temps were in the 70's....

quoting myself -- isn't that self-indulgent? Actually, I want to split my bet.

Now that I think about it, Scubabum2 and dlndavid may be right -- for you. First, the only natural scuba advantage I seem to have is a bit more tolerance for colder water than many folks; every other physical attribute of mine is contrary to easy diving! But my personal benchmark for wearing a suit, all else being equal, is below 79.

OTOH, if you're used to diving colder water, .5 may be perfect, and it certainly will pack more neatly than the 3mm.

Second, it was over Labor Day 2005, just after Scubabum2 went there, that I finally wore a suit (.5mm), albeit not every time. I don't remember the 70's (in more ways than one:14: ), but 2005 definitely seemed cooler than the previous two years. Is that a trend? Don't know, could be.

So are ya gonna flip a coin?
