August 1st through 4th in Morehead City...

I will be spending a week in Morehead City (actually Atlantic Beach), NC in the beginning of August and am bringing my dive gear. Although this is a family vacation and I don't have complete flexibility to dive all week long, they did make the mistake of leaving it to me to find a good house in NC at which to spend a week. Just so happens, it is 5 minutes from Olympus Dive Center! I know there are other dive shops in the area as well, i.e Diver Down and Divocean.

What I would like to know is if there are any folks who have a group charter set up with any of these dive ops between August 1st and the 4th and, if so, if I might tag along. I would be happy to discuss my dive history with anyone who does have a charter set up and wants to know more about my experience and qualifications. Just PM me...

Hey Bill, and an early welcome to NC! I'm sure someone from the NC SB forum will be diving out of Morehead that weekend. Shouldn't have a problem finding a dive buddy. Me and a couple other NC divers will be in Morehead in mid-August so we'll just miss ya.

Also check out Discovery Diving http://www.discoverydiving.com/ we had a boat chartered a week ago but our dives were blown out.

Gee, I appreciate everyone telling me why they can't join me. I'm looking forward to hearing from some who can. Thought I would get a bigger response given the number of NC divers I tend to see on this board... :confused1

Hey Bill, a lot of the local divers know how hard it is to plan a weekend that far in advance off the NC coast. Getting blown out is a reality here. A bunch of us planned a charter for Apr2-3. Planned it back in Nov. Everyone was paid up and had off from work. Most never even made it to the coast as the 60 mph gusts and 12ft. seas ruined the weekend. It's real hard to plan in advance here....
I feel sure that as Aug aproaches, you'll get offers from locals who will be more than happy to dive with you.

Diveocean is no longer in business. The locals are Diver Down , Discovery Diving , Olympus Dive Center . There are a few smaller outfits there but they usually stay booked. Walk ons are always welcome and common, so if you're by yourself, don't worry.
