Looking for some insight here. I have the new Halcyon wing which I have attached to a TranspacII. I have seen in the photos on various web sites how to attach the hose loosely to the shoulder strap using bungee material. I did this. The problem is that while horizontal I can not dump air, the bungee cord makes the hose form a u-shape which will not allow th air to escape. I'm sure I am attaching it wrong. Can anyone show me a better way of doing this?

Thanks

You are not attaching it wrong....you are just using the wrong valve to dump air with....Try using the dump valve on the bottom left hand side of the wing.

I guess if you really really want to dump using the inflator you could just roll over on your back. :D

Ok, so I did have it right.

I did use the dump when I could (I'm fairly new so horizontal is a realative term right now) It was my first time diving with my new gear also so my trim still needs some work. I found I had to be in a slightly head done state to make use of the lower dump. Would that be about right?

Thanks

IT really depends on what you consider head down....without a frame of reference, or seeing you dive, I couldn't really answer that question....

More than likely though, if you can't get the lower dump valve to work...there are 2 possible issues. The first (and probably the most likely) being that b/c the dump is located on the "bottom" side of the wing, you actually need to roll the dump valve to the "top" side of the wing and then try to vent gas, b/c gas won't vent out of the wing towards the bottom. The second possibility is that you're actually heads up in the water....and when you get heads down, you're actually horizontal....but without seeing you in the water, I'd have no idea if this was the case.

You got it Scott. Thats how you should be. Once you get the hang of it I think you'll find it easier this way
Thanks, I will be in PDC soon with lots of diving planned so I hope to work on some of the finer points.

Seeing me in the water? At this point I'm not sure if that would be scary or funny!!

Actually for the amount of time I have UW at this point I think I did pretty good (so did my DM, she is DIR caveII). Thinking about it your probably right what I thought to be horizontal could have been more of a heads up position as I was spending a lot of time with my head in an upward position, admirring my DM's bouyancy and trim control.

If I am reading you right, To accomplish what you are saying I would need to be farily horizontal and roll slightly elevating the dump valve to a higher point?

What a lech! :) You just reminded me how I got started in diving.

best wishes!

Wow! So you should never exhaust through the inflator hose with a wing.
I've been diving with one for a few months now and also wondered about the bungee connection so far down the hose.
My question is, so if you should only exhaust through the dump valve at all times, and the dump valve only works while horizontal. How do you exhaust on the surface before descending?

Not roll your body necessarily....but actually move the wing with your hand slightly so the dump valve isn;t pointing down....

The first time I tried a wing, this was the hardest thing for me to learn...how to dump....during fundys, there were a couple great shots of me 45 degrees inverted trying to work the valve on the wing....kind of comical really.

It will come with practice.
