Oh, I thought a "cheater bar" was a bar where married people take off their wedding rings and pick up a member of the opposite sex! Couldn't resist.

The Kraken:
Just remove the plug, screw you hose in and snug it down good and tight with an opened end wrench.

Basically, there are two ways to go wrong and they both involve tightening. The recommended tightening torque is 80 inch pounds. It really in not that sensetive so a torque wrench is overkill. The o-ring is making the seal and it will seal even if it is just finger tight which is lessa than 80 in-lp. If it is too lose, it may loosen up in use and leak. This is bad but can be corrected by tightening. If it is too tight, it can damage the threads, leak, and destroy the connection. This is real bad. Tighten it finger tight and then use a correct size wrench to snug it up. No more than 1/4 turn is needed. Object is to tighten it up just enough so that it will not come lose in use. After you do the installation, check it every time you get ready to dive until you are sure it is going to stay. And then keep checking it every now and then anyway.

No, bill, those are called "singles bars" ;)

I've used a cheater bar before... 4 foot lead pipe over the end of a 1 foot socket wrench.

Sheared three my lug nuts in a row clean off. Good thing we had a 12 ton press nearby, or I never would have gotten those stubs out :D

Well, Dr. Bill, I wouldn't know about that kind of place !!!!

So, putting the reg in the vice and hanging on the wrench is a bad idea?
I did that when I was trying to get the yoke connector off my DS4... they put those things on there TIGHT ;)

Vise. Vice is what they are working on at the "cheater bar"

Oh, that's too good !!!

All kidding aside, Rainmaker,

Boogie is right.

Sometimes some of us take certain things for granted.

Please forgive me. I've been working in a mechanical environment in some way for all of my life. Many things, like tightening connections with gaskets or o-rings just comes as second nature. Geez, I can even take a piece of paper, feel of it and tell you how thick it is, give or take .0015 inches.

My point is that I think purchasing a torque wrench to tighten your own hoses is a bit of overkill. You will, no doubt, determine a feel for these things in short order.

Diving is a wonderful learning process in more ways than one.

Safe dives . . .
. . . safer ascents
