That article talks about buying bolt-snaps from your local hardware. I did that and they lasted exactly three dives - they were showing very obvious discoloration after the first dive. Two dives later they froze solid and went into the bin. So yeah, whatever your source, buy one or two and test them before buying a dozen. Personally I've found that the Hollis ones seem to be impervious to rust whereas some of the cheaper ones like DGE carry start to get a little sticky after 100 or so dives on them. Sometimes a dollar more at purchase time really is worth it.
