I was just wondering if anyone has tried or owns the Atomic Tix and if so how does it compare to the M1? I am considering the Tix, I already own an M1 and love its performance.

Also with the M1, has anyone else noticed that their SAC rate increased slightly when using this reg??? Just an observation.

The 1st stage of the T1x is made from titanium which reacts strongly with oxygen (ie it can catch fire). In lab experiments titanium can be made to spontaneously combust in conditions well within scuba parameters with oxygen levels above 40% or so.... To date I've heard one credible story of a titanium regulator catching fire on a deco bottle of O2..... Personally I'd go with brass.

BTW as an aside to this, in contact with liquid oxygen I've read that titanium doesn't just burn, it explodes.....

Atomic has been sued a few times over this issue..I know of a diver in San Diego who lost use of his Unit. and burns on both legs just as posted. They can flash..in seconds.."Ouch"
On the other Hand..Atomic makes great Regulators. Just inherent with the Titanium Housing.

I know a salesman for Atomic by the way..You can ask him for recommendations..

I have a T1x and M1 and they have the same performance, they are great regs. That stuff about the titanium reacting to oxygen is a bit far fetched, It would have to be a very high % of O2 and even at that the odds are very low. If a concern, dive the high O2 with the M1 and 40 or lower with the T1x.

Yup
I'd like to have the Ti version as well, though price is an issue. What a sweet unit for travel that would be, espeically if you were carrying two.

I believe it is factory rated for up to 40% O2 like most of ther regs. So, I'd imagine you 'd want to inquire before using it for higher concentrations.

DementialFaith:
the b2 and t1 are built to stand enriched air up to 30%

From the Atomics website regarding TiX:
"Nitrox ready: Factory ready for Nitrox to 40%."
