I am a new diver buying equipment for the first time. I will be diving warm water but only occasionally. Monterey is my local diving area so the majority of my time will be there in the colder water. I am looking for feedback on the Atomic B1 and the Oceanic Delta 3 (or Zeta) w/ the DX4. Thanks!

Oceanic recalled some of their diaphragm regulators saying that the particular year model would leak and was potentially dangerous. This wouldn't be so troubling except that the website said that the co didn't know what caused the problem. That is either a lie or laughable ignorance. I just don't trust them. The Atomic is a sophisticated 'sporty' type regulator for the well healed. Personally, I would prefer a reg from a larger co with worldwide service. However, the Atomics are catching on and in some parts of Florida, for example, there are Atomic dealers everywhere. You didn't say if you are an impoverished student or Washington lawyer, I'm assuming the former. If so, consider the Aqualung Titan or Legend. Either will work well in Monterey's godawful cold waters.

Good info. Is the Oceanic recall you're referring to the recent CDX(5?) recall? Oceanic appears to be worldwide for support and service while traveling which would be a bonus. I have heard service for the Atomic is tough when abroad. How does the Apeks service compare?

You're in luck, my girlfriend has the B1 and I the Delta 3/DX4. We've swapped a few times and I am very happy with both. They both give a smooth breathe at depth. My only comment is that I have to keep the resistance adjustment on the Delta 3 cranked down about 1.5 turns to avoid free flows on the surface. The Oceanic recall dealt with the CDX first stage, not the DX4. In our case, the Oceanic was $100 cheaper, so I got that one, whereas my gf believes price is an indicator of quality.:bonk:

Thank you Mark! Does the second tiny switch on the top of the Delta stop the free flow tendency??

That "dive/pre-dive" switch doesn't seem to make a lick of difference on the surface or at depth. Or at least none that I can discern...
