When people talk about Florida diving why is it mostly the Atlantic side? Is Gulf diving significantly inferior than Atlantic or are there not enough dive operations in the Gulf to capture significant advertising space in magazines / dive websites etc? :dontknow:

The gulf is very underrated as far as diving goes. That is a good thing though for those of us who know. Shhh...

By Atlantic I'm guessing you mean south Florida. In south Florida dive sites are much closer to shore, visibility is generally better and warm water diving is possible year round. In the gulf most sites are a couple miles off shore. Deep sites are 20 miles off shore. Visibility is hit or miss. Right now water temps are in the 50s and 60s. Oh, and charter fees are more expensive for gulf sites. Don't get me wrong. There's great diving in the gulf. It's just not what most Florida tourist divers want.

No comparison. Atlantic side is an ocean. Gulf side is a pond. Waste you time.

I think I prefer the Gulf, once you get out about 80 miles or so from shore.
