fonfon,

What a terrible ordeal. You are very brave to share it here. The fact is, sexual predators often strive to put themselves in positions of authority or trust. In many ways it is their stock in trade. That's why it is so important to reveal them. As a journalist, I have covered many stories along these lines.

I'd like to join the chorus in congratulating you on getting back in the water.

As I understand it, this guy's name is posted on a PADI page that is only available to PADI instructors. Is there any way non-pros can see it?

The sad part of this is, with this happening in Mexico, especially if it happened in the SW, there is rarely ever any real justice delivered to the offenders. This is even more true if he could afford to pay bribes. Especially in the SW if a tourist is murdered it rarely gets solved and punished, let alone something like this.

My condolences and congratulations on your steps to recovery!

Im really saddened and distressed to hear about about your ordeal. I'm glad to know you're getting the help you need. I had a similar experience (not diving) many years ago and it took me about 20 years befor I dealt with it. Much better not to let it go. Keep diving----the vast majority of instructors only care about your safety and enjoyment of the dive. When bad things happen we have to remember that most people are good.

Fonfon thank you for reporting the incident and so sorry to hear about that apalling experience. My heart goes out to you, and thank you for increasing the awareness that these things can happen. It is so sad to hear that anyone in that professional position can be so shameful.

Really there is no reason for any diver to come into physical contact with another diver at all underwater unless in distress. It should never be the cause of the distress. It is good to hear that you are on the road to recovery as actions of this nature puts lives at risk, being not only illegal, but downright dangerous.

To the rest of the community, should you witness something like this, apart from reporting the incident after the dive, I wonder what appropriate assistance one may act upon in this situation. As I write this, I am thinking, what can I do if I see it happening? How could it have been avoided?

PADI should include a solution to this in the Rescue course!Fonfon thank you for coming forward, your sharing this information will hopefully allow the dive community to better educated in the future, should these things happen again. Again I wish you a speedy recovery.

Folks this thread was started over a year ago, and a lot of mending has gone on. IOW, it has been "put behind" - let's let it stay there.
