It's official, El Cantil has been booked and we went $200 over the budget. No complaint there, it appears to be fantastic and we'll rent a car only on the final non-dive afternoon.

At the end of it all, the condos (not just El cantil) were most eager for business and promptly replied to emails.

The hotels at times almost didn't seem to care, Hotel Barricuda was the most prompt to reply. My Hotel Coz and SCC were the slowest, often taking over 24h to get a response. Perhaps its the volume of requests they get.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm grateful we wound up where we did.

I wish you the best for a most enjoyable stay .My DH and I have stayed at EL Cantil 3 times in the past when we had group trips. We really enjoyed the location, amenities, and the overall savings of $$$ as opposed to hotel rooms. We also enjoyed how easy going and quiet it is as there are many ex pats who are full time residents. It is so nice to be part of it all even for just one week. So, get ready for a wonderful time and enjoy !!!

Really Gordon, How so ??
Surely you jest. Check the first four boxes. Some might say that it is not THAT close to town, but compared to everything south of the Presidente it is.

Sharky, I'm glad it worked out for you. Your research paid off. You got your waterfront and a super nice place for your family that fits with your budget. When you are there, maybe you will find the time to cruise by some of the places you were considering, like the Barracuda. I've stayed in many a lodging on the island and am always interested in seeing other places. All have their plusses and minuses or are appropriate if you are going solo vs going with family/friends.

OMG, my past has caught up with me! :blinking:

El Cantil is 100x better than the Barracuda lol! Not even close!

Nice choice....!!!! Perfect location, sunsets to die for, hot tub, nice pool and dock,,,across from Chedrui. What else could you ask for?!!?

Have a good time!

Wealth? I wish. I'm just a savvy shopper who spends all his money on diving because he doesn't have other pastimes like golf, skiing, or kids.

Sorry, just for you and your snippy attitude, I'll rephrase it: So people recommend a $200/night place for someone considering a $70/night place?
OK, whatever...

Is that any better?

Perhaps you missed the fact that there are SEVEN people in the group! That's AT least 3 rooms at the Barracuda, possibly 4 - but let's call it 3. At $70/night/room that's $210 a night for a DUMP - I agree with you there.

So yes, a $200 a night luxury condo makes MUCH more sense and was a perfectly logical recommendation! I'll add that breakfast at Prima is included with El Cantil rentals - so that saves the cost of breakfast every day for seven people - not to mention all of the added amenities they get with the condo rental that they would not have at Barracuda. For example, a full kitchen. Not everyone wants to cook on vacation, but to have snacks, sandwich stuff, beverages, whatever they wish will certainly save some money. They can even bring leftovers home because they have a full kitchen with fridge, stove, oven and microwave!

Obviously Sharky agreed and I think you made an excellent choice that you won't regret Sharky! Have a great vacation!!! I'm sure I'll see you around El Cantil - I'm around there ALL the time :)

Gordon - in his very first sentence he made clear that Blue Angel was his favorite, but was booked for his dates. :)

The other nice thing about El Cantil in this situation is everyone will be together in a group, yet have seperate bedrooms and bathrooms etc. Also cant beat the internet and TV most of the condos have.

Too bad I cant get my wife to ever agree to stay there!!!!! :(

"I am serious....and don't call me Shirley". ;) No doubt Gordon, You are correct, Blue Angel would have fulfilled the OP wishlist and apparently was the first choice. However, it was booked. Now I know this fact has already been mentioned, but I honestly just wanted to say " I am serious...don't call me Shirley". Don't really get that opportunity too often. Although it is a nice name, was my MIL's... OK, I know I am babbeling now....must be I am tired from 30 dives this vacation....need some sleep. :dozingoff:No matter, glad it all worked out for Sharkygill !!

Why don't you go ahead and recommend the Presidente? Not close to town and probably lousy shore diving,
