FYI - it's more like $70-80. We all don't have your wealth or the need to brag about it constantly. Sharky can do much better.
Wealth? I wish. I'm just a savvy shopper who spends all his money on diving because he doesn't have other pastimes like golf, skiing, or kids.

Sorry, just for you and your snippy attitude, I'll rephrase it: So people recommend a $200/night place for someone considering a $70/night place?
OK, whatever...

Is that any better?

Fact is, I've walked through the Barracuda several times on the way to the no-name bar. It's kind of a dump. If it costs more than $50/night, that's a rip-off IMO. Better to stay at a downtown hotel like Suites Bahía where the rooms are cheap but clean and large.

Why don't you go ahead and recommend the Presidente? Not close to town and probably lousy shore diving, but hey, it's about $300/night so it fits your pattern of being "helpful" to someone considering a $50/night place that charges $70/night.

Well, there is a short list and if I can get the timing right with the manager I'll have this part finished, in large part from folks helping here. The hotels are off the list, down to some VRBOs. I'll post when it is final, but with either of the selections we will have a great trip.

The current short list is in the ballpark of $300 per night. With a VRBO I can spread the $300 across the group seven people for an average of $42 per night. Most AI's are checking in at double that amount. Those I have been negotiating with have been very fair and working to make things happen, and I appreciate their efforts.

I think Mossman was right on this one. The guy is trying to stay within a budget, and people are recommending places four times more than he wants to spend.

Have you tried Fulvio Properties? He has some very nice places at very good rates. I got to meet him while diving a few weeks back. Very nice guy.

Consider the OP's Priority List:

Oceanfront- No road between Hotel and Water
Shore Diving
NON AI
Close to town for eats

Now add to the mix-

7 people in the group/3 Rooms
2 couples and 3 teen daughters
Taxi +/-
Meals - +/- (Can prepare own Breakfasts/Lunch/Snacks perhaps)
Amenities

Now- Crunch the numbers ... 3 Hotel rooms vs. 3 bedroom Condo

Sounds like Blue Angel to me.

Really Gordon, How so ??

Interesting, we are moving to condos, I think they are much cheaper.

Even though I know I'm right and I'm always right, it's always nice to hear other people agree with my assessment. Thank you nashwl. I hate it when all the meanies gang up me since I have such a thin skin and all :)

I'm still laughing about being accused of being wealthy. If I were wealthy, I'm be one of those people who stay in town and eat at all the fancy places like Kinta and Guido's, racking up a huge dinner bill along with my huge bar tab. I stay at a humble AI because I too am on a budget and IMO the best way to stay on a budget is when you know exactly how much your food and drink will cost you in advance. I'm doing exactly one dive trip this year, all of 14 dives, precisely because I'm not wealthy.

I just hope ccannon doesn't now accuse me of bragging about being poor!

Anyway, wasn't Christy Cannon a big porn star in the 80's? She's probably got much more saved up than me! Or do I have the names confused in my AI drunken befuddledness?
