I thought it was insane, sounded like a good idea on paper though. Arrive in Bonaire at 4 am, but you can't check into your hotel room until the afternoon (cause that's when the prior guests have checked out of their rooms and housekeeping has had a chance to tidy up the room for the new arrivals) so you're dead tired (no sleep) so when you finally get your stuff moved in you want to eat/sleep and not do the required check out dive immediately, so you miss the early afternoon check out dive and aren't allowed to dive in Bonaire until the next day after you've done the required check out dive....so getting that big head start on the famous unlimited shore diving by arriving in on the 'redeye' is another urban legend!
Not so, depending on where you are staying. Buddy Dive, for example, allowed you to do everything except get into your room.

That's what i love about the Delta flight. Land. Wade through angry United customers, get bags, catch ride to where I'm staying, move in, get groceries, then dinner. I'm personally ok with waiting until the next morning to dive.

If you're only here for a week , I understand people waiting to dive the first day and make as many as they can.. if you're down for two weeks it's not a big deal.. I'm down for 5 weeks and could care less if I missed the first day... In fact, I have days I only do one dive... I like to say.. I'm on island time !

Jim....

Even for a week at a time, i have days where i only do 2. Since i retired from the FD, I'm working harder than ever. I've only had 4 days off this year and usually work 12 to 16 hours a day. So the slow down to island time is as much vacation as diving. That's part of why i fly business class. It just sets the tone for the week.

Rent a house, not a hotel room and check in problem solved!

Only if it's free. I've had to wait for a house to be cleaned after previous occupants left that morning.

I house sit in Bonaire.... It's a great thing to stay on Bonaire for almost nothing.
