Just give the "shuttle valve" a closer look and indeed there is a tiny opening at the end where it is "mate" with the counter-balance chamber. Silly me, never ever noticed it was there. learn something new every day. When I serviced my Apeks, I simply replaced the tiny O-ring and applied a wee bit of lube on it.
Cheers.
All the moving parts are inside the 'valve" except the diaphragm. So it should be the one that suffer more wear and tear. The "chamber" only move if one adjust the screw adjuster and quite solidly built.
I always believe it is the "feet" of the valve that would eventually wear off first because of the regular movement of the lever.
Cheers.
