I have just bought an Aqualung Legend regulator. The first stage has a swivel and the body that the hoses attach to sticks up!! All others like this I've seen stick down. I hate hitting my head on the valve and am concerned it sticks up too much - note I haven't actually dived with it yet. I was thinking about taking off the pre-installed second stage and swapping it to the other side so I can point the first stage down.

My question is has anyone else had this problem and tried this? Any problems with my idea?

If it does hit you in the head, just mount the tank on your BC a little lower. That should solve any problems if you have them.

Facing down would be perfectly OK, and simple since there is a HP port on each side. I haven't done this, but I do mount mine sidways when using it on doubles, so that all the hoses will come out of the bottom.

Sorry Chris but I should have added that for whatever reason I like to carry my bottle fairly low on the BC band and I am limited to how much lower I can move it.

Cool, I did think my solution seemed a bit too obvious.

Good luck.

Umm...

This is gonna sound like a dumb question, and I do not personally do this, not in scuba gear anyway, but....

Would there be any reason he could not mount the bottle upside down therefor making it impossible to bang his head on something hard and pointy?

I think easiest way is lower your tank, however, you can point the first stage down and move your second stage hose. The good thing about Legend is the the second stage LP port is standart 3/8" hose fitting unlike the APEKS' 1/2"

I have a Legend LX and have never hit my head. I use a Seaquest Pro QD+ and the top of the tank band is about 1/2" below the radius tangent of the tank. I'm 6'2" and don't have that problem. Lowering the tank is the first choice, but you should be able to swap sides with your second.

The Legend doesn't care which side's up - put the hoses where you want 'em and go diving.
Rick :)

Never mind I found the answer in really old threads.
